Halloween special - hospital haunts

A quiet night shift always needs livening up a bit and what better way to do it than tell each other ghost stories! The downfall being that once a buzzer goes, no-one wants to be the first up because believe the stories or not, a little part of you is terrified.

Warning - Some of these may sound a bit ridiculous but all have been told to me or experienced by me during my time as a nurse.......

1.  The three witches

A lady came into hospital following an overdose.  She was in her fifties with no history of depression or previous overdose.  The reason behind taking it was very unusual.  She claimed to be haunted by three women.  They frequently appeared to her and tried to scare her.  She knew that seeing them was an unusual thing and recognised that the idea of it was crazy.  Scared that there was no way out of the hauntings, she decided to attempt taking her own life.

As is normal, all the necessary medical tests were performed to rule out any organic reason why the lady might be seeing three women nobody else could see.  Nothing was ever found.

Ghosts?  Perhaps.  Either way, i'll never forget the moment i asked her, "can you see them now?"  Pointing right behind me she answered, "yes! One of them is standing right there!"

2.  The Elevator Ghoul

In the dark corridors of an old hospital, whilst escorting a patient to another ward accompanied by two porters, we headed towards the elevator.  The porter called out to somebody as we rounded a corner, asking them to hold the lift.  As we approached however, there was nobody around.
"Who were you talking to?" the other porter asked.
"I just saw a man walking into the elevator!" he replied.
There was a moments hesitation before we all decided to step inside the elevator.  No-one spoke for several seconds until one of them decided to shrug it off.  Apparently it wasnt the first time it had happened.  It did occur to me however after handing the patient over to the next ward that the porters had left me to walk the half mile of lonely dark corridors back to my ward, alone, that perhaps they were pranking me.  Or at least, that's what I told myself.

3. The Blonde Nurse

I thought i'd finish on a nice one since good things can happen in hospitals too!

I came onto an early shift one morning to look after a lady in a side room.  Her condition had seen much improvement from the previous night where there had been concerns she might not make it.  Now able to sit up and talk, she asked me if I was the nurse who had sat next to her bed all night and stroked her hair, telling her that everthing was going to be okay.  I did think about taking the credit, however, knowing that there were no nurses that could spare an entire shift to spend doing such a nice thing, I told her, no.  In fact she had been looked after by a male nurse the previous night and there were no blonde nurses as she described her, on shift.  The side room she had been staying in was the very same which frequently has its call bell go off when there is nobody in it. (Spooky Drum Roll please).

These are the first ones that popped into my head, but there are plenty more coming in part 2........

Please feel free to add your ghostly experiences of hospital wards...
